Keyword research, as with ALL research on your industry, niche, product, etc... is the basis of All internet marketing and SEO, is something that we all need to do more of in order to be successful online.
The Google Keyword Tool is an essential part of that research from the start. Using the keyword tool properly again is essential to good research. In this post, there are some added options that may help you become great at keyword research.
When you are doing keyword research, you are looking for a good number of keywords that are relevant to your business, product, service or cause. The more keywords that you can find, the more you can use them for creating content that leads back to your site ( blog, lead capture page or sales pages). Thus generating more targeted traffic for your business.
In the Google Keyword Tool, there is an advanced options tab where you can filter down the results more targeted to your business or product. You can filter by global or local monthly searches, competition and by avg cost per click. Or you can use the column specifier, if there is such a word, in order to pull up those variables in the raw results of the keyword tool. All of this to help you generate relevant keywords for your business.

From a personal point of view my favourite bit of statistical information that I always pay special attention to when using the Google Keyword Tool is, how much competition have I got for my chosen keywords and how much each keyword will cost me.

Absolutely, I agree. I go over that in the video, and when you interpret that information properly, you can do your own SEO without a service or fancy program.
